SOLAR: THE PRACTICAL CHOICE
As the Philippines continues to switch to alternative energy sources, we can count on several renewable energy options. We have, among other things, the wind turbines from Illocos, the hyrdrothermal plant in Benguet and the geothermal plant in Bicol. What makes solar different and yet most practical for us Filipinos?

Blessed with the energy of the sun as a tropical country, the Philippines is a good and strategic place to invest in solar. With enough space and sunlight, solar panels can be installed almost anywhere, from rooftops to vacant lots, and they’re guaranteed to produce energy for you.
There are always power outages every year, especially in the summer months when the demand is too high and the energy supply drops in yellow and red warnings. Utilizing this abundant source of energy will not only result in electricity savings for a solar home owner, but the excess energy will also help reduce the electricity supply bottlenecks caused by power plant shutdowns and lower the overall cost of electricity to the general public.
Save space and time
Compared to other renewable energy sources, installing a wind turbine, dam and geothermal system in an urban area is far more complicated. Sunny days are even more common and predictable compared to windy and rainy days here in our country. Solar is definitely more scalable and cheaper to install, which offers a common Filipino who cannot build their own wind, hydro or geothermal systems a greater chance of getting and benefiting from sustainable energy, especially given the falling costs and the recent improvement in solar technology in these areas years.
Building more coal-fired power plants takes many permits and years to build, and it only takes 2 to 3 days to install solar power in a residential area. The excess solar energy that is not consumed during the day is automatically exported and mixed into the grid, which almost immediately benefits everyone. Traditional answers make less sense as we can invest in today’s technology in a cleaner, more efficient, and more ubiquitous source of energy to better understand what solar does differently.
